Our Family

We started small as two families: in-laws, brothers, sisters, cousins, and we are proud that Bethel Heights has stayed in the Casteel-Dudley-Webb family since our beginning in 1977.

We have now welcomed grandchildren, spouses, and non-family employees to Bethel Heights. Some of us have changed roles. And some of us are stepping up in the business, taking over where our family began. Through it all, we have strived to allow our wines to show their sense of place, speak to the history of our vineyard, and tell the story of our family.

Ben Casteel

Winemaker

After college and a season working in Burgundy, Ben spent five years at Rex Hill Vineyards, working his way up from cellar rat to assistant winemaker. In 2005 he finally came back to Bethel Heights to make wine with his father until 2006, when Terry retired and Ben became winemaker.

Mimi Casteel

General Manager and Viticulturist

With a background in horticulture and forest ecology, and a strong commitment to environmentalism, Mimi works with Ted to learn everything he knows about viticulture, while taking over business management, worm wrangling, and cellar duties with Ben.

Terry Casteel

Winemaker Emeritus

Winemaker at Bethel Heights since our first vintage in 1984, Terry has always sought to capture in wine the synergy between Pinot noir and our estate vineyard. Terry has been honored by organizations such as Salud! for his contributions as a legacy winemaker in Oregon.

Ted Casteel

Vineyard Manager

Ted is a recognized innovator in rigorous crop control and intensive canopy management practices for wine quality, and a leader in developing standards for sustainable viticulture embodied in Oregon's LIVE certification program since 1997.

Marilyn Webb

Chief Financial Officer

Marilyn combines her CFO function with the development of our nascent international markets and the Northwest sales effort. She also creates memorable meals for special occasions at the winery and writes recipes to pair with Bethel Heights wines.

Pat Dudley

President and Marketing Director

As a founder of Oregon Pinot Camp and former Executive Director of the International Pinot Noir Celebration, Pat has built the marketing program for Bethel Heights. She continues to be a strong voice in Oregon’s wine industry, participating in everything from sustainable wine certification practices to immigration and land-use laws.

Jessie Casteel

Co-owner

Jessie grew up among the vines at Bethel Heights, but now lives in Chicago where she can be spotted occasionally presenting our wines at tastings and dinners in the area.  She brings a creative outlier perspective to the direction of the family business.

Jon Casteel

Co-owner

Jon is the co-owner and operator of Casteel Custom Bottling. After five years of running the bottling line at Rex Hill Vineyard, Jon convinced Bethel Heights to form a partnership with him to purchase a state-of-the-art mobile bottling line in 2007.

Barbara Dudley

Chair of Board of Directors

Pat’s sister, Barbara, has been a partner in Bethel Heights Vineyard since the beginning. Although not involved in the day-to-day operations, as Chair of our Board of Directors she brings a helpful outside perspective to our big-picture deliberations about the family business and the family farm.

Kate Crowe

Tasting Room Manager

Kate started working part-time in the tasting room at Bethel Heights in 1996 when it was still just a small space above the fermentation room with a hand-written receipt book, and she has been with us ever since.  She manages the tasting room staff, shipping, and our Cellar Club. Kate used to babysit Jon and Ben as kids, and she and her family own a beautiful Christmas tree farm just a stone’s throw from Bethel Heights Vineyard.

Keri Lim

Bookkeeper

Keri joined us as bookkeeper in 2008, but we have known her since school days in Amity, where she was in the same class as Jon, and a math whiz even in those days. Her quiet demeanor and sweet disposition conceal a brain that moves with the speed of light.

Javier Garcia

Vineyard Crew Leader

Javier started working in the vineyard at Bethel Heights in 1988. His natural leadership abilities, combined with a thorough practical understanding of viticulture, have made him indispensable as an organizer and instructor of our vineyard crew.

Our Vineyard

Welcome to the gorgeous Eola Hills of the Willamette Valley! This is the place we call home—we live and work here, and it’s where our grapes thrive. We believe our vineyard tells a story and is a living history of just one of many pioneering families who have chosen to raise wine grapes in Oregon. Learn More
